In this work, effect of support for TiO2-CeO2 on selective adsorptive desulfurization (ADS) of ULSD under ambient conditions has been studied. The ADS capacity of sorbents was evaluated in a flow adsorption system with a commercial ULSD. Results showed that support for TiO2-CeO2 had superior ADS performance compared to other supports, including TiO2, activated carbon, and Al2O3. Among silica supports, MCM-48 supported TiO2-CeO2 mixed oxides were able to selectively remove refractory sulfur compounds to <1ppmw at ambient conditions with superior ADS performance of 82.5 g-F/g-sorb. The present results are promising for developing energy-efficient, highly-selective, and air-regenerable sorbents for ultra-deep desulfurization of transportation fuels.
