Methylene blue is a cationic heterocycle that reacts rapidly with vitamin C to form leucomethylene blue and dehydroascorbic acid.  This reaction is thought to proceed via a complex electron transfer mechanism; however, some kinetic data suggests that it may also occur via a simple bimolecular reaction.  Progress on mechanistic studies of this reaction and similar reactions between methylene blue and other electron rich alkenes will be reported.
