 Compounds derived from 3-piperidone are less common in the PubChem database when compared to those prepared from 4-piperidone, offering a unique opportunity for diversity-oriented synthesis.  Two routes were developed from a common alkynyl derivative of 3-piperidone that provide access to isomeric structures that differ only in heteroatom bond placement, yet are vastly different when compared spatially.  The sequences leading to these two scaffolds and subsequent library development will be discussed.
