In the past few years, due to their potential application as high performance OTFTs, a variety of fused aromatics have been synthesized. Continued efforts have thus focused on the synthesis and characterization of new types of fused aromatics. This poster presentation focuses on the experimental details to synthesize the first example of a new type of a-,a'-unsubstituted, �-, �'-alkyl substituted five-ring heteroaromatic (Compound D172FT2DMB  in Figure 1). The design rationale to synthesize these new types of fused aromatics is described. As shown in Figure 1, D172FT2DMB  was synthesized in 10 steps. The high purity of the final product is supported by 1H NMR and TLC. Additionally, comparison of the solution UV-vis spectra of D172FT2DMB  and the related fused thienoacene containing four-rings (DC17FT4  )  in CH2Cl2 indicates that by adding one more fused central phenyl ring, there is a 26 nm red shift from that of DC17FT4  due to the extended conjugation in this five-ring heteroaromatic.
