 The potent insecticidal indole diterpenes, nodulisporic acids A, D and E, isolated from the fermentation extract of the fungus Nodulisporium sp. by Ondeyka and co-workers, comprise challenging synthetic targets. A unified, modular and highly convergent strategy to access the nodulisporic acids exploiting a one-pot tandem Buchwald-Hartwig/Heck cascade to generate a common central indole core has been developed. Progress toward the synthesis of the nodulisporic acid family of indole diterpenes will be presented.
