Motor proteins inspire chemists in creation of artificial molecular transport systems.We present a small molecule walking upon an oligoamine tracks without external intervention. The 1D, processive walk (mean step number ~530) takes place between adjacent secondary amines in a stepwise fashion. Position of the walker is precisely determined on short tracks using 1H NMR. The walking upon tracks of increasing length (up to nine footholds in the track), towards a single, thermodynamically preferred, position on the track, was achieved.
