Given the drastic increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide levels over the last century, CO2 has become an attractive carbon feedstock for small molecule synthesis and liquid fuel formation. A family of palladium complexes supported by a chelating dicarbene ligand scaffold was synthesized and surveyed for catalytic reactivity with CO2. By varying the identity of the supporting ligands we are able to tune the ability of these platforms to activate CO2. The synthesis, spectroscopy and reactivity of these systems will be presented.
