A renewable diol-type macromonomer containing a bio-based carbohydrate (from corn) and two phenols derived from lignin was prepared through an enzymatic process under mild conditions. This lipase-catalyzed condensation can be conducted in bulk as well as in solvent and leads to a high purity grade macromonomer.The cyclic/aromatic macromonomer was then polymerized, in bulk or in solvent, with azelaic acid dichloride. The newly obtained aliphatic/aromatic copolyesters were characterized by GPC and thermogravimetric analyses. Their glass transition temperature and rheological behavior are still under investigation.
