This presentation will describe the synthesis of new polymers intended to provide platform, functional materials for encapsulation and delivery to specific locations either in a biological or materials setting.  Particular emphasis will be placed on the following topics: 1) synthesizing novel zwitterionic structures containing functional comonomers, including drugs used in chemotherapy; 2) tailoring the relative surfactancy of polymers to achieve facile encapsulation of hydrophobic substances for subsequent delivery; and 3) synthesizing new polymers for vesicle formation, in which the polymer structure imparts particularly robust properties to the resultant vesicles.
