One of the many recent developments in organocatalysis, organo-SOMO activation pairs organocatalytic enamine generation with single electron oxidative coupling.  The key to the system is the diastereomeric SOMO-intermediate and its ability to induce facial-specific C-C bond formation, providing the enantioselectivity of the reaction.  Experiments designed to probe the effect of organocatalyst structure on initial enamine formation, rate of reaction, and product enantioselectivity will be presented.
