Porous materials derived from discrete organic compounds became a real alternative to systems like zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks or amorphous porous organic polymers.The rational construction of molecular organic precursors, their synthesis and formation of functional porous materials are presented. The compounds form porous materials with very high specific surface areas for both types of materials, intrinsic and extrinsic, achieving values of up to 2796 m2g-1.1-3 Furthermore, the ability of processing porous molecules into functional devices is discussed.
