We will in this communication reports in a first step on the elaboration via solution intercalation method and characterization by different and complementary techniques, of nanocomposites containing 2 or 4% of an algerian bentonite modified by  Hexadecylammonium chloride (OBT) and a copolymer of methyl methacrylate containing 32 mol % of 4-vinylpyridine (PMM4VP32). The effect of OBT load on the structure, morphology and thermal behavior in nitrogen atmosphere  of the elaborated materials, was then investigated by XRD, TEM, DSC and TGA and compared to the pure copolymer.The results showed that a PMM4VP32/OBT nanocomposite of mixed intercalated/exfoliated structure with a significant increase of 56�C in the onset temperature (T5% ) and of enhanced Tg as compared to the virgin PMM4VP32 was elaborated at relatively low OBT loading (2%).An increase of OBT loading from 2% to 4% led to a decrease of  both Tg and Tonset of the elaborated PMM4VP32/OBT (4%) containing more intercaled/exfoliated layers as compared to PMM4VP32/OBT (2%).
