A key to a positive safety culture is accountability.  Laboratory workers and managers need to be accountable and responsible for their own safety as well as others in their laboratory.  One impediment faced by both laboratory workers, managers and individuals who have responsibility for safety programs is that of empowerment.  Often, a laboratory workers does not feel comfortable pointing out a safety issue.  Department managers and instructors often don't feel empowered to point out problems. In this session, we will discuss these issues in more depth, as well as some tools and ideas for meeting these challenges.
