The free radical copolymerization of acryamide and methacrylamide with  1-hexene both produce random copolymers with low levels of 1-hexene  incorporation.  In the presence of the Lewis acid, Al2O3,  the copolymerization of acrylamide with 1-hexene produces greater  material yield.  The copolymerization methacrylamide with 1-hexene is  largely unaffected by the presence of Al2O3.   However, when the Lewis acid, scandium(III) triflate is added the the  copolymerization of methacrylamide and 1-hexene at catalytic levels,  increased incorporation of 1-hexene and higher levels of methacrylamide  isotacticity are observed.   In this case, the Lewis acid allows for  simultaneous control of both comonomer incoporation and tacticity of the  resultant material.
