Eu-bearing star polymers were prepared by living radical polymerization using PMMA and PEO as arms. Eu was connected to styryl diphenyl phosphine oxide as ligand in the core of star polymer. There were two ways to introduce Eu into the core of star polymer to investigate the best introduction of Eu: sequential introduction and simultaneous introduction. The result showed that simultaneous introduction gave the highest concentration of Eu in the core of PMMA star polymer (26 micromol/g-polymer). Furthermore, the star polymers also showed the fluorescence properties under UV light irradiation.
