This study explores the ability to implement a new photopolymerization with multifunctional alkyne and azide monomers in bulk using the photo-induced CuAAC reaction. A few multifunctional azide and alkyne monomers are designed and synthesized. Organic media soluble copper (II) salts are incorporated to the monomer mixtures along with conventional photoinitiators to generate resin systems which can be readily cured. Upon visible light irradiation, Cu (I) species are generated in situ by radical reduction and thus trigger the polymerization in bulk. Kinetic studies show high conversion of both azide and alkyne monomer functional groups after 150 minutes. At the same time, the resin is stable in the dark and temporal control can be readily achieved according to FTIR.
