A novel series of anionic polymeric surfactants including poly(4HBA-oca)-, poly(4HBA-dea)-, and poly(4HBA-doa)-,  has been synthesized based on benzoxazine chemistry by reacting aliphatic amines of various chain length (C8, C10 and C12), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, and paraformaldehyde. Their structures are confirmed by 1H-NMR and FTIR. The polymerization and thermal behavior of the monomers are studied by DSC and TGA. The influence of the structure on the surface activity is investigated by measuring the surface tensions of aqueous solutions of the anionic polymeric surfactants using the Wilhelmy plate method. The C8-based surfactant shows the lowest surface tension at the air-water interface. Increasing the alkyl chain length from C8 to C12 does not significantly affect the surface tension at the critical micelle concentration (?cmc), and the critical micelle concentration (CMC) increases from 0.13 to 0.18 g/liter.
