Current practices of filtering out heavy metals from water is time consuming and costly. Studies have shown that the compounds present a banana's peel have the ability to remove metal from water sources.  In addition, filter membranes created on the nanoscale through the process of electrospinning have shown to filter out many fine particulates in water. The goal of this research is to combine the potential extraction properties of banana peels with composite nanofibers to create a reusable and environmentally friendly water filter.
