Water-soluble and water insoluble protein fractions are easily separated from canola meal. Each protein fraction has unique chemical structure, activity, and application in different areas of use. For example, the water insoluble protein fraction is very efficient at dispersing hydrophobic additives, easily and efficiently. The insoluble protein fraction was also shown to provide a vehicle for the preparation of protein-based nano-composites for adhesives and other applications. The water-soluble protein fractions are very efficient surfactants for use in foam applications and the preparation of pressure sensitive adhesives for industrial and biomedical applications. Because of the ease of protein separation and the 100 % biomass utilization of the canola meal, a cost effective raw material base is available for a variety of applications.
