Frustrated organic solids, such as p-tert-butylcalix[5]arene (TBC5), have drawn much attention past few years owing to their interesting gas sorption properties. The current study focuses on the synthesis of iodinated p-tert-butylcalix[4]arenes (TBC4) and exploring their gas sorption properties at ambient conditions. Specifically, we investigate the effect of diffusion of iodine and optimal sublimation conditions in TBC4. Sorption of iodine with subsequent partial desolvation desymmetrize organic framework that lead to molecules with porosity in the framework.  Properties, such as, hydrogen and nitrogen sorption, percent elemental composition, surface area and pore volume have been studied using gas sorption, prompt gamma activation analyses, thermogravimetric analyses and solid-state NMR spectroscopy techniques.
