On March 16, 2013, the last provisions of the America Invents Act, Public Law 112-29, were implemented.  Arguably the most important provision shifts the United States' patent law from a First-to-Invent system to a First-Inventor-to-File system, which aligns the United States' patent law with the rest of the world.  Additionally, March 16, 2013 marks the implementation of Post-Grant Review proceedings and the replacement of Interferences with Derivation Proceedings.  You might be wondering how these changes affect your work whether you are a scientist, general counsel, in-house patent counsel, or patent attorney in private practice.  For example, do chemists still need to keep laboratory notebooks since there are no more interference proceedings?  How does the Post-Grant Review affect interactions with competitors?  How does Post-Grant Review even work and what are the evidentiary standards?
