We report terahertz spectroscopic studies of jute-seed for non-invasive quality control and sustained crop development.  Terahertz spectra of four different jute seeds are investigated.  These experiments were conducted on the whole jute seed without any sample preparation.  Jute seeds were placed in a cuvette and weighed. The cuvette was then placed in the spectrometer and the spectra were acquired.  It was found that terahertz spectroscopy can potentially be applied to identify good seeds from the bad ones in a non-destructive fashion without requiring lengthy sample preparations.  This is the first effort of jute seed characterization by terahertz spectroscopy. Further studies will be carried out for spectral differences between the same jute species having different phenotypes.  Genetic studies will also be conducted for molecular level understanding of the control factors like the SNP markers that determines the yield, trait, etc. Once developed, this method will be applicable on other crop seeds.
