Polychloroprene (PCR)-nanocomposites were successfully prepared by reinforcing with acetylated cellulose nanofibers (CNF) from OPEFBs. The CNF was acetylated by acetic anhydride in order to disperse in dichloromethane, which is a good solvent for PCR. The acetylated-CNF in dichloromethane was mixed into liquid-state PCR and casted as a nanocomposite sheet. The X-ray diffraction profiles of the nanocomposites showed that the crystallinity of PCR increased with increasing CNF content up to 3 %. The tensile modulus and strength of the PCR-nanocomposites were improved with an increase of CNF content, while its elongation at break decreased with increasing the CNF content. The profiles of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) showed that above glass transition temperature the storage modulus of PCR-cellulose nanocomposites was higher than neat PCR. These physical and mechanical changes indicate that the acetylated CNF was successfully dispersed into PCR matrix and achieved strong filler-matrix interaction as well as self-assembly of PCR.
