The latest results from our ongoing efforts at the use of asymmetric catalysis for the synthesis of carbohydrates will be presented. These efforts include the use of asymmetric catalysis for the synthesis of mono- and oligo-saccharides as well as various biologically relevant carbohydrate containing molecules. In addition, the application of these de novo approaches toward the medicinal chemistry oriented SAR-study of carbohydrate containing biomolecules will also be discussed.
