To date, many efforts have been made to keep a balance between high energy density of batteries and speediness of electrolytic capacitor. As one of the solutions, supercapacitors come into the spotlight. When currently available supercapacitor systems get advances in technology, they can replace batteries in energy storage/harvesting applications. In an attempt to meet these needs, novel and rational approaches have been progressed towards preparing high-performance supercapacitor via a variety of materials/system-level controls. Examples are metal/carbon composite, surface activation, 3D architecture and interdigitated array, which clearly improved both energy and power density of supercapacitors. Importantly, our methodologies have been developed on the basis of understanding the requirements of future EES, and tailored to show superior performance and the enhancement of electrochemical properties. Accordingly, our achievements regarding on the synthesis of efficient supercapacitors could help to pave the way for the success of a sustainable future.
