Although the main application of the hydroformylation reaction is the production of aldehydes as intermediate for alcohols and bulk chemicals, the asymmetric hydroformylation offers a great potential for the fine chemical industry since enantiopure aldehydes can be produced from inexpensive feedstock in a single step. The synthesis of defined metal catalytic species is key factor for efficient asymmetric hydroformylation. The properties of the active centre can be controlled through the coordinated ligands. Therefore, the design and the modification of ligands influences the catalytic results both activity and enantioselectivity. (1) Recent progress in asymmetric hydroformylation involves ligands design, intermediate characterization and scope of substrates. This presentation shows the application of modular ligands in hydroformylation reaction.
