Amine-based compounds are effective anion receptors which are often used for anion recognition in water under a wide range of conditions.  During the course of our studies, we have been interested to introduce electron-rich spacers within the macrocyclic frameworks. We successfully synthesized three polyazamacrocycles using furan, pyridine and biphenyl spacers from Schiff base condensation followed by reduction. The receptors were studied for a variety of anions by X-ray crystallography, 1H NMR, 31P NMR and 19F NMR technique.
