This presentation will discuss a new mode of activation of primary and secondary aliphatic alcohols with triphosgene and an amine base, such as triethylamine, to yield either alkyl chloride or diethylcarbamate products in high yields. The reaction conditions to achieve this highly useful transformation were unexceptionally mild and readily tolerated by a wide range of sensitive functionalities.
