New methods for the functionalization of fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, and graphene will be discussed.  These include the development of electrocyclic addition reactions and reactions on graphenes that are activated by oxidation of reduction processes.  Electrochemical activation will be presented as an alternate mechanism to chemical activation.  The utility of functionalized carbon nanotubes and graphenes in electrocatalysis will be demonstrated through the creation of well-defined ligands for metal binding.
