In the last decade, there has been a high demand for developing efficient scale down bioreactor models to replicate classical large scale reactors and enhance efficiency in early and late stage cell culture process development. This study evaluates Automated Micro-scale Bioreactors (ambr), an advanced micro bioreactor system with 24 disposable bioreactors controlled by an automated workstation. Each bioreactor has a 9�16 mL working volume, an internal impeller, and capability of gases being individually supplied and controlled to the each vessel.To evaluate the ambr system, we compared the performance of a recombinant Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cell line expressing a recombinant antibody in a fed-batch process. To determine if ambr does replicate the characteristics of classical bioreactors at micro-scale, the cell growth, cell viability and antibody titer were compared to bioreactors across various scales, 3L, 10L and 200L, with the same CHO cell line/fed batch process.
