1. IntroductionIron is an ideal catalyst for hydrocarbon synthesis because high activity and olefin selectivity. However, Iron has some problem as industrial catalyst due to their carbon deposition [1]. In this study, carbon formation has been investigated with varying CO/CO2 ratio in feed gas on a K/Fe-Cu-Al catalyst during FT synthesis.2. ExperimentalThe catalyst was prepared by the co-precipitation of Fe/Cu/Al precursors, followed by potassium impregnation. The catalysts were reduced in situ in syngas at 300 ? for 2 h. The FT reactions using balanced feed gas with various CO/CO2 ratios were performed in a fixed bed reactor. The reacted catalysts were characterized by mean of XRD and TPD-C.3. Results and DiscussionThe XRD patterns after FTS reaction reveal the presence of iron carbide and metallic iron together [2]. The TPD-C profiles show the peaks around 420 ? correspond to surface carbides and around 600 ? to bulk phase carbides. The carbon species decreased with CO ratio in feed gas. The catalytic activity and selectivity is illustrated in Fig. 1. The Hydro carbon yield decreased with increasing the CO2 ratio.4. ConclusionsTEM and XRD results showed that low CO2 ratio favored the formation of iron carbides. TPD-C profiles showed that the carbon formation decreased with CO ratio in feed gas. Overall, high CO2 ratio in feed gas was effective to inhibit the carbon formation.
