An asymmetric approach towards new conformationally constrained cis- gamma butyrolactone amino acid containing tetrapeptide with a define secondary structure starting from benzene is hereby describe. In addition a facile synthesis of (-)- Geissman Waiss lactone from trans azido trimethylsiloxycyclohexene is also reported. The synthetic strategy disclosed here allows furthermore the enentioselective synthesis of a variety of functionalized cis- gamma-butyrolactone esters and butenolide derivatives
