One of the most dibilitating diseases of the Central Nervous System (CNS) is Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Research focusing on the amyloid � peptide has shown limited success. An alternative approach to treating AD involves reducing the abnormal Tau proteins from a post-symptomatic AD brain. The biplanar diarylheptanoid (+)-aR, 11S-myricanol in bayberry extract potentially reduced Tau levels in cell-based screening platforms. In an attempt at the total synthesis of (+)-aR, 11S-myricanol, our synthesis utilizes an enantioselective asymmetric Suzuki cross-coupling, and an Indium-mediated allyation of an aliphatic aldehyde. Our synthesis is highly convergent and represents a facile route to diarylheptanoids.
