Microwave-assisted chemistry functions to reduce the amount of time that a typical reaction would normally take. Both organic and medicinal chemistry reactions can be adapted for use of microwave irradiation. Synthesis of thiosemicarbazones that are shown to have anti-bacterial and anti-convulsion properties are conducted using microwave energy. The anti-bacterial properties of thiosemicarbazones will be analyzed in this research. A CEM MARS microwave was used to reduce the amount of reflux time for each step of the multi-step synthesis.
