The complex [TptBu,MeCr]2(�- N2) which features an end-on bound bridging dinitrogen ligand, has been synthesized and structurally characterized.   This Cr(I) synthon shows reactivity towards a variety of small molecules.  Examples include various azides, producing Cr(III) imido complexes of the type TptBu,MeCr(NR), elemental sulfur,  yielding the corresponding Cr(III) ( ?2 �S2) persulfido complex , and nitrous oxide, resulting in a bridging bis �-oxo chromium complex.
