The effect of glass fiber (GF) and hybrid GF-talc fillers on thermal expansion behavior of filled plastic composites was investigated. The linear coefficient of thermal expansion (LTEC) of the filled composites decreased with increased filler loading levels. The composite system with refined GFs had smaller LTEC values compared with those from the systems with combined fillers. The use of a larger portion of GFs in the mix can lead to better composite performance, while the use of talc can help lower the composite costs and increase its recyclability. The use of 30 wt% combined fillers seems necessary to control LCTE values of filled HDPE in the value range generally reported for commercial wood plastic composites.
