In this work, we report the fabrication and characterization of a superhydrophobic coating using 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecylphosphonic acid (FDPA) modified imogolite nanotubes (FDPA-imogolite). A sol-gel process using FDPA-imogolite and a perfluoroalkyl silane (FAS) was applied for the coating preparation. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis indicated that imogolite nanotubes were successfully modified with FDPA. SEM measurements show that the FDPA-imogolite/FAS coating exhibited a nano-scaled roughness. The obtained coating gives water contact angles above 150�, thus can be used as a superhydrophobic surface.
