A lot of researches is conducted today to promote the performance of the membrane in PEFMC. The durability of the fuel cell membrane is a single requirement to classify the membrane as an optimal membrane. Another requirement is the ability of the chemical structure of membrane to exhibit relatively high proton conductivity, and chemical and mechanical stability. Aromatic per fluorocarbon sulfonamide ionomers were synthesized and designed to be compatible with these conditions. Figure [1] shows the chemical structures for the models that were used for the study; where M-SAMC, D-SAMC and T-SAMC are referred to mono-, di- and tri- sulfonamide chains at the model compounds respectively. The durability characterization of the synthesized model compounds was evaluated by exposing the model compounds to hydrogen peroxide radicals accompanied by heating and catalyst aid or UV radiation influence. The hydrogen peroxide radicals accelerate the degradation process and the generated compounds were analyzed using LC-MS. The mechanism for the degradation, which is based on the resulted peaks, refers to tendency of the model compounds to dimer and form oxidative coupling aromatic compounds.
