This study has two objectives.  First, evaluating the ability of select organotin-containing polymers to inhibit two pancreatic cancer cell lines. The cell lines tested are AsPC-1 which is an adenocarcinoma pancreatic cell line and PANC-1 which is an epithelioid carcinoma pancreatic cell line.  Both are human cell lines and are widely employed in testing for inhibition of pancreatic cancer. The second objective involves comparing  the two most widely cell lines employed in the evaluation of the effectiveness of compounds to arrest the growth of tumor cell lines.  These two cell lines are the NIH/3T3 and WI-38 cell lines. Since the NIH/3T3 are easier to handle they are often favored over the WI-38 human cells.   In general, the  GI50  values for both monomers and polymers are lower than for cisplatin.  The CI50 values are generally less than one with few values greater than two. While there are major difference for some of the GI50 and CI50 monomers, the differences between the values for the two standard cell lines is generally less than tenfold for the polymers.  The CI50 values for most of the phentolamine polymers are outstanding with some of them being among the largest thus far found. Further, the high values are for both cancer cell lines for the phentolamine polymers consistent with the idea that they may inhibit other pancreatic cancer cell lines.
