The slurry reactor was adopted for methanation of syngas, which is highly exothermic, to avoid sintering and deactivation of the catalyst. Catalysis reaction was carried out at low temperature (280-330 �C) with Zr-doped Ni/?-Al2O3 as catalyst. The catalysts were prepared by impregnation (IP) and impregnation co-precipitation(ICP). The catalyst 25%Ni3%Zr/?-Al2O3(ICP) showed higher activity of methanation and WGS reaction, its CO conversion of CO was as high as 91.2%) at 325 �C with GHSV=10000mL/(g-1�h-1) and Pressure=1.5MPa, while selectivity of CH4 is 87.78% on 25%Ni3%Zr/?-Al2O3(IP) and 85.2% on 25%Ni3%Zr/?-Al2O3(ICP) respectively due to enhancement of WGS reaction. The characterization results (TPR, XRD and TEM) indicated that Ni was better dispersed on the support of ?-Al2O3 by ICP, and Zr doping improved the dispersion of Ni as well the hydrogen-promoted dissociation of CO. aIt could be concluded that more reducible Ni formed through ICP led to excellent performance.
