Iridium catalyzed C�H borylation offers direct synthesis of organic boronic esters from hydrocarbons and boranes where regioselectivities are often determined by steric effects. The have shown that the tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc) can function as directing group in heterocycles. For example, N-Boc protected pyrrole is borylated at the 3-postion as opposed to borylation at the 2-position in unprotected pyrrole. In this talk, we will show that the pinacolateboryl (Bpin) moiety can function in a similar role as a directing group. In contrast to Boc, Bpin installation and removal is facile.
