In the 21stcentury, catalysis aims for 100% selectivity to realize �green chemistry�, producing only one desired product at high turnover rates and less by-products in multipath reactions. Since heterogeneous catalysts are mainly prepared by nanoparticles deposited on oxide supports, oxide-metal interfaces have attracted much attention as an important catalytic site.In this study, uniformly synthesized Pt nanoparticles were incorporated into mesoporous materials for the preparation of nanoparticle catalysts. Poly (vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) capped Pt nanoparticles in the size range of 1 � 5 nm were synthesized by polyol reduction methods. High ordered mesoporous oxides including Al2O3, TiO2, Nb2O5, Ta2O5, ZrO2, Co3O4, MnO2, NiO, Fe2O3, and CeO2 were prepared through either soft-templating (cooperative assembly) or hard-templating (nanocasting) approaches. Catalytic reactions of CO oxidation, methylcyclopentane hydrogenolysis, and hydrogenative reforming of n-hexane were conducted to study the metal-support interaction over PVP-capped Pt nanoparticles supported on mesoporous oxides.
