Biomass addition in an existing coal plant is considered one of the most promising alternatives towards the control of GHG emission. The results of this study reveal that as the biomass addition in the CBTL feed is increased the liquid and power production are reduced. However, the overall efficiency of the plant is increased, due to the lower power consumption in the plant when biomass is considered as a feed. The replacement of the conventional CC for power generation by a more efficient in-series FC+CC system was also studied as an alternative to increase the power generation. The results of the study illustrate that the FC+CC system can drastically increase the overall power and electrical efficiency of the plant. Finally, the biomass source plays a key role on the overall energy production and efficiency of the CBTL system.
