To valorise the crude glycerol issued of biodiesel production which is increasing over the last decade, catalytic dehydration of glycerol into acrolein is proposed. At present, acrolein is produced from propylene. The major issues of this sustainable solution are the amount of by-products and rapid catalyst deactivation.  Main by-products have been well identified whereas secondary ones are poorly described in the literature. To understand their formation, experiments were run in an isothermal fixed bed reactor operated under different conditions (temperature, space-time velocity, concentration). A gas chromatography�mass spectrometry was used off-line to identify the condensable products. A gas chromatography coupled FID-TCD was used on-line to identify and quantify both major and secondary reaction products. Based on the determined products, a detailed reaction mechanism was proposed.
