Flumequine is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent widely used as veterinary drug in food-producing animals. It is an emergent compound and its presence in the environment may contribute to the development of drug resistant bacterial strains. Ultrapure water fortified with 500 �g L-1 flumequine was submitted to UV-C, peroxidation, UV/H2O2, UV/TiO2, Fenton, photo-Fenton, electrochemical and photo-electrochemical (CH2O2 = 1.0 mmol L-1, CTiO2 = 0.62 mmol L-1, and CFe(II) = 0.25 mmol L-1). In 60 min of reaction, flumequine degradation was higher as follow: UV/TiO2 = UV/H2O2 > UV-C > photo-eletrochemical > electrochemical > photo-Fenton > Fenton > peroxidation. In 30 min, only UV/H2O2 and UV/TiO2 were able to decrease the compound concentration and the antimicrobial activity of the solution below the limit of quantification. Finally, the byproducts identified and proposed for UV/TiO2 were m/z 244, 232, and 202; and for UV/H2O2, m/z 244, 238, and 202.
