The structure (especially modularity) and properties (especially permanent porosity) of metal-organic materials (MOMs) have made them an attractive class of materials for applications including gas purification and storage, catalysis, small molecule separations and chemical sensing. In recent years we have applied crystal engineering strategies to study three classes of fine-tunable MOM families or �platforms�: Porph@MOMs  (MOMs with cages that are capable of encapsulating porphyrins); Pillared grids  (which afford control over both pore size and binding energy); Trinodal nets  (MOMs that offer exceptional opportunities for fine-tuning but are rare because of the synthetic challenges associated with self-assembly of three nodes). New results that address the effect of pore dimensions and pore functionality upon the selectivity of carbon dioxide uptake will be presented.
