The use of oxide anode supports in SOFC technology potentially offers high resistance to sulphur poisoning, avoidance of hydrocarbon fuel coking problems and good oxidation tolerance under high fuel utilisation. Whilst these characteristics are important it is also essential that peformance characteristics are on a par with conventional Ni cermet anode supported technology. Here were present data on optimisation of strontium titanate anode supports through control of composition, microstructure, processing parameters and tuning of co-catalysts. Good performances, in excess of 300mWcm-2 are demonstrated in different configurations.
