Dimeric 9H-9-borafluorene 1  is prepared in situ from 9Br-9-borafluorene and Et3SiH. In contrast to all other diaryl(hydro)boranes known to date, 1  features a 2e3c B-C-B bridge supported by a 2e3c B-H-B linker (X-ray crystallography, DFT calculations). 1  is not long-term stable but undergoes a ring-opening oligomerization to form the main-chain boron-containing oligophenylene 2  .
