Certain N-heterocyclic compounds can be turned into highly luminescent species upon coordination to organoboron Lewis acids. Examples of such B-N-adducts are boron-dipyrromethenes (BODIPYs) which possess quantum yields close to 100%. We will report on air-stable BODIPY derivatives (1  ) containing two chromophores within a 9,10-dihydro-9,10-diboraanthracene framework. We have also employed 9,10-dihydro-9,10-diboraanthracenes as inverse chelators of 3,4,5-triphenylpyrazolides. The resulting B-N-analogues of triptycene ?(?2  ) show intense violet to blue fluorescence.
