The transient titanium alkylidyne (PNP)Ti=CtBu (PNP- = pincer type ligand) can dehydrogenate linear ethers at the terminal position as well as transform them by dehydroalkoxylation. Depending on the nature of the ether one pathway is favored over the other, and we provide a combination of experimental and computational studies to address the mechanism of these competitive pathways.
